The end of September has us thinking about the coming cooler months at CV3 Mechanical Solutions. Lows are still not too low so it may not be time for the heater just yet but the shift in weather is a good time to start shifting your thinking to the heating system in your home. Before we know it, temperatures will be declining and it will be time to turn on the heat (and enjoy all things pumpkin spice and the beautiful changing of the leaves, if you’re anything like Office Manager Kaysee).
While you may not be thinking about your heating system just yet, now is a great time to start preparing. We asked CV3 Mechanical Solutions Owner and Lead Service Tech, Frank Bates, some common questions about heating systems that may be helpful to you in the coming months.
How do customers know when it is time to replace their heater?
“If there is visible rust or the carbon monoxide detector is alarming it may be time to replace the heater. Also, if the home is not heating or able to keep up with heating demand or if multiple items on the heating continue to fail you may want to consider replacing it. In the long run, replacing the heater may be more cost effective than constantly paying for repairs.”
What steps can customers take to help maintain their heaters and prepare for the winter months?
“An annual service review by a licensed HVAC professional is the best way to maintain your heater and prepare for the winter months.”
What is the leading cause of heater breakdown?
“The leading cause of heater breakdown is moisture. Moisture may occur during the cooling cycle. When condensation water is coming down onto the heat exchanger instead of through the PVC drain piping it may cause rust. This will shorten the life of the heater.”
As the saying goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” We want to encourage you to start planning now for your yearly maintenance. Your safety and comfort is our concern and we would love to come check your system to ensure that it will keep you warm and comfortable throughout the cooler months. Many costly breakdowns occur because of improper maintenance. Our hope is that we can save you time, money, and frustration in the long run by checking your system before the season is in full swing.
